Quick brief
What do you need to know first?
The short answer on what a cap does and how to build the case.
Quick Answer: A carb cap is the lid a customer sets on a hot banger after the dab goes in. It traps heat and restricts airflow. Stock directional spinner caps deep, add a bubble cap as the entry tier, and keep slurper and e-rig caps separate. The bubble caps we carry include 23mm and 25mm.
Carb caps are one of the cheapest parts of a dab setup, and they’re the part shops forget to reorder. Here’s what carb caps do, which styles to carry, and how to match them to the bangers you already sell.
The basics
What is a carb cap, and why does every banger sale need one?
Start here if caps are still a box under the register.
A carb cap covers the banger after the dab drops in. It traps heat and restricts airflow, which drops the pressure inside so the concentrate vaporizes at a lower temperature.
That’s the whole job. Dr. Dabber’s guide calls the cap an absolute necessity for low-temperature dabs. Puffco’s guide makes the same point from the other side: without a cap, a lot of the vapor escapes before the customer even pulls.
For you, that makes carb caps the add-on that rides with every banger. They’re small, they display well, and staff can explain one in a sentence. File them right beside your wholesale quartz bangers, and use our quartz banger stocking guide for the banger side of the same counter.

The lineup
Which carb cap styles should a smoke shop carry?
Two shapes do most of the work. The rest is about fit.
Build the case on directional spinner caps, with a bubble cap as the entry option. Puffco lists four styles, but directional and bubble caps cover most flat-top bangers, and the slurper and e-rig caps sit apart.
Puffco’s guide names vortex, directional, spinner and bubble caps. Dr. Dabber’s adds the old flat cap with a handle. That’s a lot of names for a small case. Here’s how they sort once you think about where each one sits.
| Style | How it moves air | Where it sits in your case |
|---|---|---|
| Directional or spinner | An angled or slitted hole steers air and spins pearls | The core, stock it deep |
| Bubble | A round cap the customer moves by hand to steer air | Entry tier, a few facings |
| Slurper or tower top | Built for slurper or control-tower bangers | Next to the slurpers |
| E-rig cap | Built for one e-rig model | With that brand’s glass |
The directional caps say it outright in their listings. The vortex spinner cap we carry is listed to create vortex airflow for spinning pearls. The slitted ball cap is listed for use with pearls on most flat-top bangers. Shelve them beside your terp pearls and pillars so the set sells together.
Fit
How do you match a carb cap to the banger?
Fit questions are where cap sales go wrong.
Match the cap to the top of the banger, not its joint. Flat-top caps, slurper caps, tower caps and e-rig caps aren’t interchangeable, so file them by what they sit on.
Joint size tells you which rig a banger fits. It doesn’t tell you which carb caps fit the banger. The bubble caps we carry include a 23mm and a 25mm, and both are listed for most standard bangers. That’s your safe default when a customer doesn’t know what banger they’ve got.
Slurpers are their own lane. The slurper top cap we carry is designed for terp slurpers. The opal top cap is a 26mm disc on a 10mm base, made for slurpers too. Control-tower bangers get the tower cap.
E-rig caps don’t cross brands. The slitted directional cap we carry is designed for the Puffco Peak and Peak Pro, and the UFO joystick cap seats in the Dr. Dabber Switch 2. Keep them with that brand’s glass, and send Peak owners to the Puffco carb caps section.

At the counter
What do customers get wrong about carb caps?
What buyers hear most when a cap comes up.
The common miss is treating the cap as optional. A customer who skips it loses heat and vapor out the top, so set one of your carb caps next to every banger you ring up.
The second miss is buying by looks. A cap that doesn’t seat on the banger is a return, no matter how good it looks in the case. Ask what it’s going on before you sell it.
From the Counter — Every banger needs a cap
What I tell shops: a cap isn’t optional. It seals the top so the smoke actually goes through the rig. Without one, air leaks in the top of the banger and your customer doesn’t get a proper pull.
The directional cap is the most popular style. Its airflow catches the pearls and keeps them moving in the wax, so the dab doesn’t burn in one spot. A spinner cap works the same way.
The bubble cap is the OG. Your customer spins the cap itself, and it works fine without pearls. And UFO’s just a shape name, not its own kind of cap.
Stocking plan
How should you display and reorder carb caps?
Put the caps where the banger sale happens.
Display carb caps at the counter beside bangers and pearls. Keep the directional caps deep, give each bubble width one facing, and keep slurper and e-rig caps with the glass they fit.
Caps break, and they’re easy to lose. That makes them a repeat buy for a customer who already owns the banger, so keep the everyday directional caps where staff can grab one without walking.
Material is the easy trade-up. Puffco’s guide notes that borosilicate glass caps don’t affect flavor but can break if dropped. It also says quartz caps pair well with quartz bangers.
That’s why the 23mm quartz bubble cap we carry is your step-up piece, and the 25mm glass bubble cap is the entry tier. Wholesale pricing is behind your account login, so you’ll set the tiers once you see live numbers.
Why most wholesale guides get carb caps wrong
Distributor catalogs sort carb caps by shape name: vortex, spinner, UFO, bubble. Your customer doesn’t shop by shape. They walk in with a banger and ask what fits it.
Sort your carb caps by what they sit on instead: flat top, slurper, control tower, e-rig. Then teach staff one question. What banger is it going on? That one question sells the right cap the first time.
What I’d stock
What would I stock if I were building the cap case today?
A starting list you can price once you’re logged in.
Two or three directional spinner caps deep, a glass bubble cap as the entry tier, one quartz cap as the step-up, a slurper cap and a tower cap, and the e-rig caps that match the glass you carry.
If I were setting up the dab corner this month, here’s the cap section:
- Flat-top core: a vortex spinner and a slitted ball cap, stocked deep.
- Entry tier: the 25mm glass bubble cap.
- Step-up: the 23mm quartz bubble cap.
- Slurper side: a slurper top cap and a control-tower cap next to the slurper sets.
- E-rig side: Peak caps next to your Puffco glass.
That’s a carb caps case that covers flat-top, slurper and e-rig owners without overbuying. Browse the full wholesale carb caps category to fill it out, and see our accessories stocking guide for the rest of the counter.

Buyer questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers to what buyers search before they order caps.
Do you really need a carb cap?
Yes, for a proper dab. Dr. Dabber calls the cap an absolute necessity for low-temperature dabs, and Puffco’s guide says it traps heat and keeps vapor in the banger. Sell one with every banger.
Can you dab without a carb cap?
Not properly. Without a cap, air leaks in the top of the banger and heat and vapor escape. A cap restricts airflow and lowers the pressure inside, so the dab vaporizes at a lower temperature.
Do terp pearls go in the carb cap or in the banger?
In the banger. The pearls sit in the bucket, and a directional cap’s airflow spins them. The directional caps we carry are listed for use with pearls on flat-top bangers.
What size carb cap fits a quartz banger?
Fit depends on the banger’s top, not its joint. The bubble caps we carry include a 23mm and a 25mm, both listed for most standard bangers. Slurpers, control towers and e-rigs take their own caps.
Which carb cap works best with terp pearls?
A directional or spinner cap. Its angled or slitted airflow is what keeps the pearls moving, so display those caps right beside the pearl packs.
