Hand Pipes

Hand pipes are the dry, no-water glass your counter sells the most of — spoons, chillums, sherlocks, and one-hitters that load a bowl, light, and pull. They are the impulse buy next to the register, the first piece a new customer ever owns, and the cheapest thing on your glass wall. Smoke shops and dispensaries stock them deep because they move fast, break often, and reorder themselves. Pair them with grinders and lighters for a full dry-smoke set near the counter.

What you’ll stock

Hand pipes split into a handful of shapes, and most shops carry all of them because each one hits a different price point and customer.

  • Spoon pipes — the classic bowl-and-stem shape with a carb hole on the side. The bread-and-butter seller and the one people picture when they say “pipe.”
  • Chillums — a straight tube, no carb, no bowl rest. Smallest and cheapest; the one-and-done grab.
  • Sherlocks — the curved, gooseneck stem with the bowl up front. A step-up gift piece that photographs well.
  • One-hitters & chillums — pocket-size dry pipes for a single pull, often sold in a dugout.
  • Color & worked glass — fumed, frit, or dichro pieces that carry a higher ticket than clear.

What is a hand pipe?

A hand pipe is a dry pipe you hold in one hand to smoke flower — no water, no electronics. You pack ground flower into the bowl, light it, and draw the smoke through the stem into your mouth. The whole category covers spoons, chillums, sherlocks, and one-hitters; the only real differences are shape, size, and whether there is a carb hole.

What is a spoon pipe?

A spoon pipe is a hand pipe with a rounded bowl at one end, a flat mouthpiece at the other, and a small carb hole on the left side of the bowl. The carb is the key feature — you cover it while lighting to pull smoke, then release it to clear the chamber in one breath. It is the most common dry pipe sold and the shape most customers default to.

What is a chillum?

A chillum is a straight, conical hand pipe with no carb and no bowl on top — just a tube you pack at one end and pull from the other. It is the simplest pipe there is, which makes it the cheapest and the easiest to stock in volume. Glass chillums and one-hitters are the same idea: a single pull, then tap it out.

Spoon pipe vs chillum — which sells better?

Spoons and chillums cover two different buyers. The spoon is the everyday piece — bigger bowl, a carb for control, the one people keep on the table. The chillum is the discreet, low-cost grab for pockets and travel. Most counters stock both: chillums as the cheap impulse add-on and spoons as the step-up.

  • Spoon — carb hole, bigger bowl, table piece, mid price.
  • Chillum — no carb, single pull, pocket size, lowest price.
  • Sherlock — curved stem, gift-grade look, top of the dry-pipe range.

How do you use a hand pipe?

You grind the flower, pack it loosely into the bowl, then hold a flame to the corner of the bowl while you draw. On a spoon, cover the carb hole with a finger as you light, then lift your finger to pull the smoke through. On a chillum there is no carb, so you simply pack, light, and inhale. Loose packing and a small flame keep the draw smooth and the glass from clogging.

How do you clean a glass hand pipe?

You clean a glass pipe by soaking it in isopropyl alcohol with a pinch of coarse salt, then shaking to scrub the resin loose. Seal the pipe in a bag with 91% iso and salt, let it sit ten to fifteen minutes, shake, and rinse with hot water. Stock a cleaner on the same shelf — it is the natural add-on every pipe buyer needs within a week.

Is there an order minimum on wholesale hand pipes?

No. Buy a single tray or restock one shape at a time — no minimums, no pallet commitments. Reorder whatever moves.

Do I need a license to buy wholesale?

You’ll need a seller’s permit or sales-tax (resale) certificate to open a wholesale account — that’s it. No medical or cannabis license is required, since glass and accessories aren’t controlled. Sign up, send us the cert, and we’ll get you approved.

How much margin is in hand pipes?

Hand pipes are one of the highest-margin lines on the floor because the ticket is small and the markup holds. Most shops price at about 2x the wholesale price, plus roughly $10 on top for wiggle room. You set your own retail price — impulse glass rarely gets cross-shopped.

How fast can I restock?

Orders ship in about 2 business days. We are a small crew based in Huntington Beach, California, with over a decade in the industry, so a counter that empties its pipe case on a busy weekend can have it filled again by mid-week.

What if a piece arrives broken?

Send us a photo and we replace it — breakage in transit is on us. That is the Arrival Guarantee, and it matters most on thin glass like spoons and chillums.

Can I get custom or private-label hand pipes?

We run our own line, so custom and private-label work is possible — your own colorways or a shop-branded spoon. Send us an email for a quote.

What goes into a full dry-smoke setup?

A complete dry-smoke kit is the hand pipe plus the things it needs around it. Round out the counter with grinders to prep the flower, lighters to spark it, rolling trays to pack over, and cleaner to keep the glass clear. Sell them together and the pipe stops being a $15 sale and becomes a $40 basket. For customers who want water filtration, point them up the wall to bongs.
