A stemless bong is a water pipe with the downstem built into the glass body rather than added as a separate slide-in tube. Smoke is pulled through a fused diffuser or directly into the water chamber, so there is no joint where a downstem plugs in — just the bowl on top and the mouthpiece.
They do have a downstem — it is fused inside the body instead of removable. Glassblowers build the diffusion path straight into the piece, which means fewer joints, fewer leak points, and nothing that can be pulled out and dropped. The trade-off: the downstem can’t be swapped, so if a customer wants a different diffusion style they replace the whole piece, not a part.
Cleaning a stemless bong uses the same isopropyl-and-coarse-salt method as any water pipe — fill, plug the openings, and shake the salt through. Because the downstem is fixed, there is no stem to soak separately, so the whole job is a single rinse. Pull the bowl, cap the joints, agitate, and flush with hot water.
